PHASE II FOR KIDS
Simplified Story

THE BREAKTHROUGH

As the digging continued beneath the library, the team uncovered something small hidden inside the rock.

At first, it looked like a golden pebble.

But it wasn’t stone.

It was amber—hardened tree sap from millions of years ago.

And trapped inside it was a mosquito, perfectly preserved.

Dr. Eliza Fern carried the amber carefully into the lab and placed it beneath a bright light. The tiny insect glowed inside the golden stone.

“Look closely,” she said. “This mosquito may have bitten a dinosaur.”

The room went quiet.

Because inside the mosquito… was blood.

Dinosaur blood.

The discovery changed everything.

If the blood had been preserved inside the amber, then there was a chance—just a chance—that the team could find dinosaur DNA.

Dr. Malcolm Reed frowned as the others leaned closer.

“And if you find DNA,” he said slowly, “you’re going to try to use it.”

Hammond smiled, his eyes bright with excitement.

“Of course we are.”

The scientists got to work right away. They carefully studied the blood and began pulling out tiny pieces of dinosaur DNA. But there was a problem.

The DNA was old.

Damaged.

Incomplete.

Some pieces were missing.

So the team searched for a way to fill in the gaps. They needed DNA from a modern animal—something that might help complete the pattern.

They chose a frog.

Piece by piece, the scientists rebuilt the dinosaur DNA until they believed it was strong enough to use.

Dr. Malcolm Reed watched from the edge of the lab, his arms folded tightly.

“Just because we can do something,” he said, “doesn’t mean we should.”

But Hammond wasn’t listening.

The team was already preparing for the next step.

Not just studying dinosaurs…

Not just imagining them…

But bringing them back to life.

YOUR JOB AS A DNA RESEARCHER:

READ

The discovery in the amber has changed the expedition.

As you read and record your minutes, the team will continue studying the mosquito, examining the DNA, and preparing for what may come next. Every minute you log helps move the research forward.

Keep reading. Keep recording. Something incredible may be waiting in the lab.

*Reading level three will remain locked until the next phase of the story begins, so keep recording your minutes—your progress will be ready when the next part of the expedition opens.

PHASE II CHALLENGES

The fossil dig has become something much bigger. The team needs trainees who understand more than fossils.

Now the team needs trainees who can think like scientists. Study DNA, explore cloning, and learn how ancient creatures may be connected to the animals we know today.

But remember Dr. Malcolm Reed’s warning: discovery is exciting—but it also comes with responsibility.

Phase II Challenges are open now.

Complete a challenge to earn bonus points and a drawing ticket.

Stay alert, DNA Researcher. The lab doors have opened, and the next discovery may change everything.

*Other challenges may appear, but they are locked until later phases of the story begin. Check back as the expedition continues—new challenges will open as the story unfolds.
